On my way to 64!

Embracing Life at 60: Freedom, Fun, and Fearlessness

Reaching 60 is like being handed a VIP pass to the “I don’t care what you think” club. Gone are the days of worrying about whether my shoes match my outfit or if I’m eating too many carbohydrates at a party (which I always do).

Long gone are the days of a pension at 60, a free bus pass and a hefty fuel allowance. Women nowadays are just getting started and cranking it up - Ozempic, facelifts and electric blankets.

At this age, I’ve mastered the art of unapologetic living. Whether it’s donning a bright pink cashmere jumper and lime tights to Sainsbury's or dancing like no one’s watching at my grandson's birthday party, I relish the freedom to express myself without the constraints of societal expectations.

And let’s be honest, if I’m not cleaning the kitchen with legs weights strapped to my ankles, well, then I'm not even trying to live my best life.

Despite the societal myth that ageing means slowing down, I find myself more physically active than ever.

Whether it’s taking a power walk around the park at 6 am, gingerly stepping into my back garden ice bath to lengthen my telomeres (look it up) or embracing my paddle board, I’m determined to stay relevant- and maybe a little ridiculous.

I might not nail every dance move, but who doesn’t love a good laugh?

Plus, my grandson doesn't call me Gangsta Nan for nothing, and I can still be a good competitor in a race with him (sometimes I even let him win).

And let’s not forget about the wealth of experiences I’ve gathered over the years. I’ve got stories that would shame even today's wildest teenagers!

From dating inappropriate guys (or worse still, marrying them 🙄) and driving down to Stringfellows Club in London in a car with a door that didn't shut properly, telling my parents I was staying at friends, but both of us were in a field drunk. - ALL NIGHT.

Life at 60 is a rich tapestry of adventure, wisdom, and plenty of laughter.

The fact that I made it to this age is actually a miracle!

So here’s to us fabulous (now 62) year-olds living boldly, dancing like no one’s watching, and fully embracing the joy of being wonderfully, unapologetically ourselves!
